Susan Ruth Ziegler Fowler, age 74, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at home on March 24, 2025. She was born on February 5, 1951, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to William and Sophie Ziegler.
She is survived by her devoted husband, James Fowler III; her beloved son, James Fowler IV, and his wife, Emily; and her cherished grandchildren, William, Nathan, and Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Sophie Ziegler; her brother, William Ziegler Jr.; and her sister, Cynthia Moriarty.
Her devotion was unwavering, offering a glimpse of true, Christ-like selflessness. She lived the words of Scripture: “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35), pouring out her love without expectation of anything in return. Even when she was unwell, she continued to show up, lifting others up while quietly bearing her own burdens.
Though the trials she faced seemed unjust, she remained faithful, and her love never wavered. Her life was a testimony to the sustaining power of God’s grace and her unshakable hope in Christ. Like Job, she could say, “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another” (Job 19:25-27). That hope has now been fulfilled. She stands before her Savior, fully healed, fully whole.
She dedicated much of her life to teaching, investing in the lives of her students with patience, wisdom, and care. Her love for learning and her desire to see others grow were a reflection of her servant’s heart. She not only educated minds but also shaped hearts, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She leaves behind a legacy of sacrificial love, one that will be felt for generations to come. She demonstrated what it truly means to care, to put others first, and to love without limits. Her life stands as a testament to the power of love that seeks to serve and build others up.
As we mourn her loss, we find comfort in knowing that her labor of love was not in vain. “God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them” (Hebrews 6:10). Though her sacrifices may have been unseen by many, they were seen by God, who will honor her faithfulness.
Though we grieve, we hold on to the hope that her selfless love has left an eternal mark on our hearts. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” (Psalm 116:15). We find peace knowing that her passing is precious to God and that she is now with Him, receiving her reward.
"When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: ‘Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?’” (1 Corinthians 15:54-55). Death has no victory here. Her life in Christ is now complete, and she rests in His eternal peace.
Her memory will live on through the lives she touched, and we take solace in knowing that she is now at peace, resting in the arms of Christ, who sees all and will make all things right in His perfect time, according to His will. As we mourn her passing, we hold on to the hope of the gospel: "We do not grieve as those who have no hope" (1 Thessalonians 4:13). We find comfort in knowing that she is with Christ, experiencing the joy and peace He promised, and we look forward to the day when we will be reunited in His eternal kingdom.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Grace Funeral Home, 450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, LA 70433, on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 12:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
