Born in Newfoundland, Seth grew up in Ottawa and spent his formative years at Alta Vista Public School and Lisgar Collegiate. The number 8 bus, Mayflower Pub, and Minglewoods were frequented by Seth and his motley crew of friends. After getting his undergrad at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Seth briefly returned to Ottawa before moving out to British Columbia. He loved living within blocks of the ocean, bought a boat, and delighted in being a man of the sea. Seth was an avid reader and movie buff, and his love of cars started at a young age and continued to be a favourite pastime.
Seth will be dearly missed by his three children, Ava, Dexter, and Priya, and partner Julia; his mother Marilla, sisters Sita and Erin (Michael); and nieces and nephews Amanda, Jada, Elijah, Roland, and Lyla; Dallas, Olli, Liam, Sadie and Allie.
He is remembered fondly by his extended Caines and Nanayakkara family members in Newfoundland and beyond.
Seth will be remembered for his fierce intelligence and acerbic wit. He didn't hesitate to share his opinion, and relished engaging in lively debate. While he left Ottawa nearly 20 years ago, and remained a lifelong Ottawa Senators fan, Seth embraced the Vancouver Canucks as his number one team. Seth's father Rohan died in December of 1986, at 36 years old, and Seth has followed far too quickly.
At Seth's request, there will be no service. Arrangements have been provided by Piercy's-Mt Washington Funeral Home, and the family would appreciate any memories shared on the website below.
Please consider donating to your local Snowsuit Fund or Food Bank in Seth's memory.
