With a heavy heart I, Vaughn McCabe, wish to announce the passing of my wife, companion, best friend and personal handler for the past 37 years, after a long struggle with a terminal disease, on Sept 12th 2016 in her home.
Those who knew her knew her as a straight talking, out-going, independent, active person, who rarely hid how she felt about things or you. She packed a lot of personality and respect into a petite body. If you didn't know her sorry you missed out.
She fought a good long fight and was as independent and sarcastic as ever until the end.
She had many interests in her life ranging from darts to pool to softball to needlepoint and was an avid NFL fan, especially of Peyton Manning no matter what team he was on.
She was just completing high school in Amherst Nova Scotia in 1979 when she chose a career for life which was the care, feeding and control of me. Which she accomplished admirably, especially the control of me part, all I can say is lookout world my social filter has been removed.
Her other career was in book-keeping and she worked for several different companies over the years as I drug her around the country with me, until we settled in the Comox Valley in 1989. Where she eventually opened her own Book-Keeping business which she ran until she retired.
She will be dearly missed by myself and her dog Levi as well as her surviving family. Brothers George (Rita) Damery, Wayne (Elizabeth) Damery, and Percy (Nicole) Downey, Sisters Susan (Denis) Lussier, and Debbie Cummings, Brother In Law Curtis (Barbara) McCabe and Sister In Law Barb McCabe. Plus many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her Father Charlie Damery, Mother Greta Damery, Father In Law Curtis McCabe and Mother In Law Shirley Petrus, as well as her beloved dogs Sparky and Munch.
As per her wishes there will be no formal service and she will be cremated, as she never wanted to be cold again and as one of her friends put it you get to have a smoking hot body again. A non-formal Celebration Of Life will be held in the near future at a place and time to be determined.
I want to thank all our friends, the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) especially the Palliative Care Nurses, Dr Nishio, Dr Mazarheri and the Pharmacy Staff at Shopper's Drug Mart Courtenay for the support we received during this end process.
If you feel the need to send flowers please do not, as Karen thought they were a waste of your money, donations to the Comox Valley Heath Care Foundation would be appreciated instead.
Arrangements under the direction of Piercy's-Mt. Washington Funeral Home, Courtenay, BC.
