Jack was born in Vancouver, BC on February 25, 1931 to Velma and Alfred Walsh. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Mine Engineering Degree in 1955. He traveled all over Canada, working at different mines.
He eventually arrived in Snow Lake, Manitoba, where he worked for Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting. In Snow Lake he met the love of his life, Joan Bensen. They raised two daughters, Robyn and Lauri. In 1989 they retired to Vancouver Island.
Jack had a sense of humor that never wavered, even in the toughest of times. He also had an incredible memory! He had a gift for telling stories of his mining days, his youth, and his time spent in Snow Lake. Dad had a genuine interest in others and always wanted to know their stories. Dad was interested in current events and what the future would hold, and encouraged his family to be curious too. He had a talent for letter and poem writing that brought a lot of joy to those who received them. Dad loved his pets! Those four legged family members brought him a lot of joy.
Jack will be missed by his daughters, Robyn, (Bob), Lauri, (Ron), his 4 grandchildren, Keli, (Tyler), Rycki, (Branden), Shea and Brett and his two great grandsons, Jase and Bensen. Jack is predeceased by his wife, Joan and his younger brother Robert.
The family would like to thank Dr.Wainberg for the wonderful care he gave Dad over the years, (even house calls!). Thank you to Home Instead, and VIHA South Team Nurses, and the VIHA Therapy team, who supported Dad in his home. Dad always said he had great neighbors! Thank you to Sue, Bill & Lena, Roy & Tracy, Don & Avril, Bill & Shelley, and Mark & Patti. We would also like to thank Dr. Reggler and Glen for their compassion.
You will be missed.
