Deb (DJ) left us far too early and quickly at the age of 57 on September 28, 2018 with family at her side after a valiant 6-week battle with cancer. Predeceased by her father Laurie, Deb is survived by her mother Diana, brother Dave (Kari), nephew Sam, cousins and many friends. Deb had a kind and loving heart, an infectious sense of humour and compassion for all people. Her quick wit, creativity and passion for miniatures and her love of stuffed animals (Jed & Tito) gained her a following of friends and fans worldwide.
Deb was born in Vancouver and lived her life between there and the Comox Valley. Graduating from GP Vanier in 1979, Deb went on the get her BFA at Emily Carr and her MFA at Western University. Deb’s career took her in many different directions. This included many visual arts and media work and up until her illness, her favourite being Gift Shop Supervisor at the Comox Air Force Museum. The love and support that surrounded Deb in her last weeks of life were a testament to the beautiful soul that she was. Huge thanks and love go out to Kari, Allison, Jon, Sydney, Sarah, museum family and friends who brightened up Deb’s final days. Also, thank you to Dr. Matous, 2nd and 3rd floor nurses and the Views Hospice nurses for their unconditional compassion and care. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 10th, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Comox Air Force Museum (Military Row, Lazo, BC). Donations kindly accepted in Deb’s memory may be made to the Comox Valley Hospice Society (102-1509 Cliffe Ave, Courtenay, BC V9N 2K6).
