R. William (Bill) Millman died on November 14, 2024, at home in Long Beach, California). He was 87 years old. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ann (nee Lubin), three children Daniel (Laura) Millman of Palos Verdes Estates, Rosalyn Millman of Washington, D.C., and Sara (Victor) Silva of San Pedro, and granddaughters Andrea (Tyler Johnson) Millman, Alison Millman, Adrianne Silva, Linda Lane, and Jahara Silva, great grandchildren Ricky Lane Jr, Alanna Lane, and Aryanna Quick.
Bill was born December 31, 1936, and raised in Toledo, Ohio, the fourth child of Samuel and Anna Millman, who immigrated to the United States from Russia. His siblings—Frank (Elaine) Millman, Edith (Marvin) Rosenbaum, Louis (Bunny) Millman, and David Millman—predeceased him along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Education was a priority throughout Bill’s life and for his family. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo, Ohio, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Florida. As a professor of Management and Business Administration for more than 30 years, he taught thousands of students and advised dozens of graduate students at the Georgia Tech and Penn State Universities. He completed a sabbatical with the Cranfield Institute of Technology in Great Britain and consulting trips to Venezuela, Peru, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.
After marrying in 1957, Bill and Ann moved to Gainesville, Florida. They then lived in Atlanta, Georgia, before moving to State College, Pennsylvania. Bill retired from teaching and they moved to Long Beach, California, to be closer to family and escape the cold Mid-Atlantic winters.
Bill was active throughout his life and held leadership positions in many Jewish institutions. He helped lead State College’s small Jewish community to become Congregation Brit Shalom. He was a member of Temple Beth Shalom in Long Beach, where he had been President of the Congregation and Vice President of Finance.
