Robert was born on January 18, 1943 in Coshocton to the late Avery and Gladys (Parks) Rice. On July 10, 1961, he married Darlene Geerts. Robert was a member of the Coshcton Eagles #761 and also of the Coshocton Baptist Church, where he served as an ordained deacon and as a trustee. He also served on the church’s building committee. Robert enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and watching NASCAR. He was also loved old country music. In 1986, Robert retired from General Highway Express. He then later retired from Ross Brothers in 1999 when he became disabled.
Along with his wife, Robert is survived by his two children, Robert D. (Janis) Rice of Willis, Texas and Margery A. (William) Donley of Conesville, four grandchildren: Darcy (Scott) Baker, Cortney McMahon, Lacey Donley, and Robert Rice; and one great-granddaughter, Ryhan McMahon.
Along with his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his two brothers, Delmar Rice and Don Rice, and his three sisters: Sue Ireland, Linda McVay, and Violet Titus.
Calling hours for Robert will be held in the chapel at Given-Dawson Funeral Home on Monday, August 8, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Paul Schwab officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.
