Dick served in the United State Navy during the Korean War era as a Sonar Man on the USS John Hood DD655. He retired as a civilian Electronics’ Supervisor of the United States Air Force at the Newark Air Force Station.
He served as a Captain of the Coshocton Fire Department in the 1960’s and was member of the Newark Moose Lodge # 499, the Coshocton Eagles Lodge # 761 and a member of the NRA. Dick was a long-time member of the Jacksontown United Methodist Church where every Sunday he looked forward to telling an inspirational story and saying a pray before services. He also helped out the church’s food pantry for many years.
On April 6, 1968, Dick married Evelyn (Hardesty) Sturtz who passed away on March 26, 2013.
He is survived by his stepsons, Michael (Hope) Uebel of Bryan, Ohio and Gregory Uebel of Chicago, IL; grandson, Dillon (Destiney) Uebel of Marietta, Ohio, two great-granddaughters, Claire and Olivia Uebel and daughter-in-law, Jan Adkins of Fresno, Ohio.
Along with his parents and wife, Dick is preceded in death by his stepson, Terry Uebel, sister, Lois Farmer and his best friends and dogs, Fifi, Smokey, Tony, Warrior, Timmy, Sally, Tessie, Ripboy and Shadowbaby.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 11:00 am at South Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Oscar Bickerdt officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Coshocton County Veterans Council Honor Guard. Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home is serving the family.
