Superior Mother Scott, Honorary First Lady, age 103, departed this life on November 9, 2021 in Coshocton, Ohio. She was a devoted member of The Supreme Council of The House of Jacob for 86 years, and worshipped in Bethlehem Twp., Ohio.
Superior Mother Scott was born on July 25, 1918 to the late Luther and Carrie Reed Coleman. She was one of five daughters born to that union. Four sisters have preceded her in death.
Her spiritual journey began when she was sixteen years old. Missionaries attending a revival in Youngstown, Ohio heard her playing the piano from her home near the church. The pastor said, “We need to get her in our church!” They encouraged her to join and thus she became a member of the church on September 16, 1935.
One year later on September 23, 1936, she met and married a dynamic young man in the church, Elder William Leslie Scott (Father W. B. Israel, S.O.T.). This union was the fulfillment of a prophesy given by our Founder, Father G. W. Israel, P.O.I. who told Elder Scott when he was a young man, “One day, I’m going to give you a sweet little wife who will be good for you for the rest of your days.” God blessed their union with five sons, and five daughters. Five of her children have preceded her in death; Ms Judith Dryer, Mother Jerusha Broughton, First Bro. Jacob Scott, Second Bro. Jacob Scott, and Mr William Scott.
She was an amazing mother, both naturally and spiritually. She had a keen sense of humor finding joy and laughter in the simpler things of life. Her laugh was infectious. Both young and old enjoyed being in her presence. During our holy convocations, she was usually one of the last saints to leave the multipurpose building. This was her joy, being with her brothers and sisters in the Lord.
She often said that one of her greatest joys was playing songs for the Forefathers, and Father J. Daniel Israel, J.O.G. when the Spirit gave them new songs. Music was her legacy. When her fingers touched the keys, her music touched our hearts and carried us up into a higher level of praise! The Spirit blessed her with many songs that uplifted and inspired us, and we continue to sing them today.
During the year of Jubilee, 1960, Father W. Israel, J.I.S. bestowed the title of National Music Directress upon her. In 1975, she formed the 100 Voice National Choir at the request of Father W.B. Israel, S.O.T. Under her excellent direction, the choir brought joy whenever they performed.
She was elevated to the rank of Superior Mother in 1972 by Father W.B. Israel, S.O.T. With God working through her, she offered words of wisdom and encouragement to many who said her words gave them new hope and direction in their lives. Honor was again bestowed her in January 1980 when Father J. Daniel Israel, J.O.G. presented her with a gold stole representing her years of loyalty and dedication to God and his Church.
One of her favorite songs was, “What Do You Want The Lord to Say? Well Done Thou Good and Faithful Servant, Enter Into The Joy of The Lord.” Mother Scott lived her life for the Lord, and loved all things pertaining to Righteousness.
Superior Mother Scott is survived by her sons, Mr. Abinadab (Florena) Scott of White Plains, MD, Brother David (Sr. Mother Gayle) Scott of Coshocton, Ohio, Advanced Senior Mother Ruth (Advanced Presiding Elder Donnie) Montgomery of Indianapolis, IN, Sister Joyce Pollard of Zanesville, Ohio and Ms Jewel Scott of Newark, Ohio, One Daughter-in-Law, Mother Darlene Scott of Philadelphia, PA, One former Daughter-in-Law, Mother Maxine Scott of Coshocton, OH, Thirty grandchildren, twenty-seven (27) great grandchildren, several great, great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and others who claimed her as mom.
