Virginia Dyer Dunham

Virginia (Ginny) Dyer Dunham died February 11, 2019 at age 92 following a brief illness. She was born in Corpus Christi, TX on July 22, 1926 to LeClare and Eldon Dyer. Ginny graduated from Corpus Christi High School and the University of Texas at Austin where she met her future husband, former state district judge, Walter (Bill) Dunham, Jr.

Ginny was a person of many and varied interests. She was a talented pianist and amateur artist, especially gifted in water colors and pastels. She was also an active "Birder" with lifelong friend Phyllis Yochem and was a longtime member of the Audubon Society. Rather than being an empty nester Ginny went back to school at age 45 and earned her Masters in Library Science degree at the Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. She worked as a librarian for the City of Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi Independent School District and Del Mar College until her retirement.

Ginny was an avid and eclectic reader. For over 50 years, she met with good friends as part of a book group. In her final years, she often could be found on her living room couch with a mystery book, her favorite genre, in hand.

Ginny was a kind, generous lady who was totally devoted to her husband and two sons. Throughout her life, visits always included her requested updates about family and friends. Her children never left her home without her asking how she could help them and offering food, especially cookies.

Ginny is survived by her sons Walter Dunham, 111 (Letha), Richard (Debbie), her sister Barbara Hardin, and her cousin Tommy Lee Hayden. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ken Smith (Emily), Jared Dunham (Amber), and Marty Dunham (Michelle), great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, and her nieces and nephews.

For 30 years Ginny had the help of Josette Kuykendall, a devoted caregiver and friend. Words alone cannot express the family's thanks for her many contributions to Ginny's life and well-being.

The world is less rich and interesting due to Ginny's passing.

A Memorial Service will be held for Ginny at 2:00 p.m. on March 9, 2019 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 700 S. Upper Broadway St.
