Ama was born in Gonzalez, Texas on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1934. We will always treasure her special day. Her heart was an open door to everyone who came into her life. A very creative person, she enjoyed working on arts and crafts and decorating for the holidays. There was always food at Ama’s as she was an awesome cook. She was also a member of the Columbian Ladies Council 3110 for a number of years.
Valentina goes home to reunite with her parents, Dolores and Juanita Calderon, her mother-in-law, Estefana Saenz, her sisters, Severa Robles, Senovia (Jose) Reyna; her brothers, Jesus (Carmen) Calderon, Dolores Calderon and her precious grandson, Ramiro “Bubba” Saenz III.
She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Ramiro Saenz, Sr., She was a wonderful mother always taking special care of her children; Ramiro (Hilda) Saenz, Jr., Esther (Armando) Gallegos, Rosalinda Saenz-Ramirez, Nelda (Jesse) Esquivel; Sister JoAnn Saenz, Lydia (Armando) Alaniz, Patricia (Onesimo) Ramirez and her baby, Larry Ray Saenz, Sr., Also, survived by her sister, Camila (Abel) Herrera, and brothers, Prudencio Calderon and Marcelo (Frances) Calderon.
Ama was always surrounded by her twenty-one grandchildren, Larry Ray Saenz, Jr., Kassandra Barrera, O.J. Ramirez, the youngest “her concentido”, Alejandro Ramirez, Tony Ramirez, II, Rowena Lopez, Amanda Alaniz, Isaac Alaniz, Sondra Botello, Belynda Garcia, John Andrew Esquivel, Valerie Perez, Tamara Gallegos, Elena Saenz, Eliza Saenz, Marisa Herrera, Marina Juarez, Libby Salinas, Christopher Saenz, Jaelyn Gutierrez and Trisha Cragget. And her twenty-four great-grandchildren were just as close. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, neighbors and many friends that would always visit, especially on her birthday.
A special thank you to all those who prayed for Ama and her family and also to all the medical staff and caregivers that continually took great care of her.
Ama held a special place in her heart for Sherry Jo Moncada, Apolonio Chapa, Jose Antonio Ramirez, Manuel Barrera, Mary Saenz and Raul Alonzo.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with a service at 6:00 p.m. and Holy Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.
Visitation will resume on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Robstown, Texas. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Christopher Saenz, Tony Ramirez, Isaac Alaniz, John Andrew Esquivel, Larry Ray Saenz, O.J. Ramirez and Alejandro Ramirez.
