Lea Walker passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 12, 2021.
Lea was born in Dallas, TX to parents Fred and Alice Schulz (now both deceased). At an early age, the family moved to Austin, TX where she attended both Sidney Lanier and Reagan High School. Secondary education was completed at Bauder College in Arlington, Texas. Lea moved to Corpus Christi in the early 70’s. In 1992 Lea discovered her passion working with the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network. Over the next nearly 30 years she would oversee the functions of TMMSN in Corpus Christi, devoting her time and efforts, solely as a volunteer. Her unending dedication and commitment to the Network will surely be missed, and her place within it, even harder to fill.
Lea was known by many names – Sondra to some, Lea to most, Squeaky and Aunt Squeaky, Nana Lea, and Fearless Leader. She leaves behind her husband of 38 years Gary L Walker, stepdaughter April Hansen (Jason), grandchildren Kayla, Zachary, and Jayse, her sister Jo McWhorter (Danny), brothers-in law John Wayne Walker, David Walker (Ilene), nieces Abby Clardy (Dean), Joslyn Domel (Cecil), Molly McWhorter (Louis), Katy Brock (Geoff), Heather Walker, Tracy Peters (Glen), Brooke Walker, and Nephew Blake Walker (Kristi), as well as great nieces and nephews. And most especially, her beloved stranding network family of friends and volunteers.
Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, October 4, 2021 at 12:30 pm. Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Interment will follow immediately after at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
