In 1926 she married Benjamin Jimenez Villarreal. After he returned from WWII they opened a corn tortilla making operation in the front room of their small house. They sold fresh wholesome corn tortillas to the neighborhood.
The business grew and they opened Charro Tortilla Factory a modern operation in a new building with production capacity to distribute across Corpus Christi and out.
Sara R. Villarreal is a founding member of La Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana. Her faith was unshakable; it grew and deepened throughout her life.
She is best known as Tia Sara by family and their children, and their children’s children. The endearment Tia is an expression of respect and recognition of her compassion and open nature.
Sara and Benjamin had five sons, three died at birth. Joe A. Villarreal and Armando L. Villarreal are Sara’s two living sons. Joe lives in Palo Alto, California and Armando lives in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Reynaldo Rivera, Sara’s younger brother, is the remaining of ten siblings.
She never remarried choosing to raise her two sons.
Joe and Armando plan to establish a scholarship fund in their mother’s name. SARA: Student Achievement Recognition Award. The sons request that instead of flowers and gifts to please do an equal amount, a donation to the SARA trust fund.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, October 7, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Cage-Mills Funeral Director’s Chapel with a prayer service to be held at 6:30 p.m. that same evening. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Taft Memorial Park.
