Ruby Nell Thomas entered this life on April 26, 1950. She was born in Magnolia, Arkansas, to the parents of Jessie Lee Culp and John C. Walker Sr. God knew Ruby was unique and gave her the love of a second father, Willie McCoy Sr., Both fathers, preceded her in death. She accepted Christ at an early age and kept Him at the forefront of her life.
She went by "Nell" and spent her adolescent years in Muskegon, Michigan, enjoying her childhood while attending Muskegon Public Schools. She was very talented. She was her OWN beautician. Nell also was the fastest female runner in "downtown" Muskegon. Her talent for running was known by many.
Nell gave valuable lessons to her siblings, teaching them about being patient and honoring their mother and father. She loved music and listened to all types while drinking her coffee. Nell loved plants. She had a green thumb that would return any suffering plant to its full strength.
God loved Nell. Once again, He gave her the love of two men; John L. Thomas Sr., her first husband, who preceded her in death, and her second husband, Michael Cheeks, who, along with four generations of loved ones, was by her side when she took her last breath.
Nell was a fun-loving person who lived 'her" life. She loved to cook and had a passion for preparing meals. She never wanted anyone to go hungry and feed everyone. It didn't matter what day or time it was; Nell would cook a full four or five-course meal. Some of her favorites were spaghetti, roast with gravy and vegetables, and steak.
She loved her family and shared a special bond with her mother. Nell would send for her to visit for weeks at a time. When her mother was in town, she made sure her children were there so five generations of love would surround her mother. It was important for her to spend time with her loved ones.
Nell's children are her greatest joy and accomplishment. She read and reviewed their school lessons, ensuring they were ready for the day. She also taught them how to cook, clean, and love each other. She has a special relationship with each one and showered them with lots of love, hugs, and kisses. Nell was THE BEST mother to her children. Her running talent is present throughout generations.
