Ruben Cardenas Barrera, 68, of Odem, TX, passed away December 29, 2019. He was born in Corpus Christi, TX on July 26, 1951. Ruben graduated from Roy Miller High School and went on to receive a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with an emphasis in Accounting from Texas A&I Corpus Christi. He was married to Anita Mendieta Barrera on July 16, 1977.
Ruben had a 44 year career at the Texas State Comptroller Department at the Corpus Christi Audit Division as an auditor and advancing to the position of Account Supervisor. He had a passion and love for his wife, kids, and their ranch, the Angie-Maria Ranch, named after his mother and mother-in-law. Even though he had an aspiring career as an accountant, his real passion was his ranch. His spare time revolved around taking care of his ranch, cattle, goats, and ranch dogs. Tending to his land was what he took pride in. Helping other people was always in his heart, regardless of what your circumstances were. Always anxious to teach the younger generation in his family about working the ranch.
He was preceded in death by parents Raul T. and Angelica Barrera.
He is survived by the love of his life Anita, his favorite rock star, computer whiz son Ruben Estevan, his daughter-in-law Angie, his forever baby girl Sara Verena, brothers Roberto Barrera (Clara) and Rolando Barrera (Eloisa), as well as sisters Rosemary Castillo (David) and Rosalinda Barrera.
The rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, Sunday January 5th at Memory Gardens Funeral home with viewing and visitation from 5 to 9 PM. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday January 6th at Most Precious Blood Church with internment following at Memory Gardens.
A celebration of life will be held at the House of Rock where he loved going to listen to his son play.
