His dad died when he was five years old, then his mother left him with her own mother when he was seven years old. Robert graduated from Robstown High School in 1949. He then joined the Navy on July 17, 1950, and he was honorably discharged in 1954. Robert attended Del Mar College then he worked for the Caller-Times until January/1956. He met his wife in May/1956 and they were married on May 11, 1957 at the Corpus Christi Cathedral. They spent their honeymoon in Mexico City and San Antonio, Texas. He worked various jobs and finally retired October/1997.
Robert is survived by his wife, Jean Louise Williamson; children David Lee Barber of Albuquerque, NM, Patti Jean Bonham of Austin, TX, and Cheryl Ann Leary of Kerrville, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his son Robert Duane Barber; his sister Peggy Jo Wundt; half-brothers, Ronny and Tommy Williams.
Graveside burial will be at 9 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Coastal Bend Veteran's Cemetery
