He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Julia Zamora; brothers, David Zamora, Jose Zamora, and sisters, Juanita Ramirez and Alicia Rinche.
Blackie was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on July 4, 1935. He is a graduate of Roy Miller HS. He was an all-around athlete; track, boxing, and football. He was inducted into the Miller HS Football Hall of Fame and a Golden Gloves winner. Blackie served in the United States Army. He retired from the Corpus Christi Army Depot after 39 years of employment.
He married his high school sweetheart, Janie (Garza) Zamora. Blackie was an exemplary husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather. He was caring, loving, generous, and a trustworthy friend to many. He was very giving of his time and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Blackie is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Janie; his children: Roy Zamora (Ivy), Roxy Vasquez (Dave), Rachel Salinas (Carlos), grandchildren: Raeven Zamora, Roy Anthony Zamora II, Ross Zamora, Reese Zamora, Mason Vasquez, Mia Vasquez, Sierra Fulgencio, Drake Fulgencio, Chloe Salinas, Nolan Mays, Hudson Mays, and great- grandson, Khai Coles. He is also survived by his brother, Mike (Peggy) Zamora; sisters Josie (Jose) Chavez, and Mary Torrez.
Blackie will be greatly missed, and will forever live in our memories.
Family will be receiving friends for visitation at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 30, 2017 with a Rosary to be recited at 10:30am with a Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church.
Burial will follow at 10:00 am on Friday, December 1, 2017 at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery-2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy Dallas Texas.
