Mauro Homero Luna Sr. - Devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, passed away on May 6, 2021 after an eight month battle with advanced cancer. Most known as Homer to all his family and friends, he left this world quietly in his home surrounded in the love of all his immediate family. He was born on August 10, 1948 to Octavio and Guadalupe Luna.
Homer will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Enedelia "Nena" Barrera-Luna, as they just celebrated 50 years of marriage this past January. Homer was born and raised in Hebbronville, Texas until he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas after his High School graduation in 1967. Homer attended Del Mar College, where he met the love of his life, got married a few years later and raised three children all of whom survive him. After graduating from Del Mar College with an Associate Degree, Homer started working with the Corpus Christi Independent School District as an Elementary Physical Education Coach. After a few brief years, Homer went on to work in the Corpus Christi Telecommunications Industry known as TCI/ Time Warner Cable and retired in 2011 after thirty-six years of dedicated service. Homer's retirement did not last long as he went on to become the Marketing Director for J. Barrera Law and worked up until his final days.
Homer will be remembered for his profound love and devotion to his family. Homer always enjoyed participating in and watching sports, especially when his children and grand-children were involved, often never missing a single game. Homer played High School football with the Hebbronville Longhorns from 1965-1967. Homer's love of football remained after High School as he was a part of the Texas Association of Sports Officials for thirty-nine years. Men's Softball was another passion of Homer's as he was known to play weekly for many years. He also took enjoyment in playing pool from an early age. For many decades he competed with many leagues in various tournaments and practiced almost daily with his personal pool table inside his home. In addition, Homer was fond of music and found joy in Tejano dancing with his wife. When he wasn't on the dance floor, Homer was relaxing in his recliner watching old Mexican movies, especially ones that starred Vicente Fernandez and he often recited these movies word for word. On top of all that, Homer was quite the outdoors man who took pleasure in hunting, BBQing/Cooking for his family and competed in BBQ Competitions with his son. Homer lived a full life on his own terms and was able to leave this world the same way.
