Manuel Dimas Ynostroza, age 92, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at his home with his family by his side. Manuel was born on January 7, 1929 in San Antonio, TX to Atilano Ynostroza and Teodora Zavala. He was the youngest of five siblings.
He graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1949 and was drafted into the armed forces in 1950. He was sent to fight in the Korean War and was stationed there until his honorable discharge in 1952. He was awarded the Korean Service medal with 1 bronze star and the United Nations Service medal.
Manuel went to school on the GI Bill and studied welding and received an Industrial Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He was a helic arc welder and worked on aircraft engine parts for the government. He worked for the government for 38 years until his retirement from the Corpus Christi Army Depot in 1989.
He was a lifetime member of the American GI Forum, The Dr. Hector P. Garcia Chapter. He was an avid hunter, engraver, gun and coin collector, golfer and complete lover of any and all western movies.
Manuel is survived by his beloved wife of sixty three years, Juanita Ramirez Ynostroza and his six children, Lamar Mendiola (David), Margaret Ynostroza, Tomas Ynostroza (Ann), Mel Ynostroza (Maggie), Linda Garza, and Sandra Golden (John).
Manuel was loved by his eight grandchildren Sara Garza, Marisa Ynostroza, Sofia Ynostroza, Alana Garza, Tommy Ynostroza, Gabriela Ynostroza, Richard Ynostroza and Santana Golden.
The Pallbearers will be his two sons Tomas Ynostroza, and Mel Ynostroza; his nephew Roger Ramirez and his three grandsons Tommy Ynostroza, Richard Ynostroza and Santana Golden.
Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 5:00 PM. Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 3, 2021 at St. Teresa Catholic Church at 8:30 AM. Burial will take place at Coastal Bend State Veteran’s Cemetery.
