Luretha "Rita" Kocian

Rita Beatrice Kocian, 81, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, joined our Lord on March 1, 2012, surrounded by her loving children. Rita was born on March 2, 1930 in Waco, Texas, to Paul and Dora Callaway. She resided in Georgetown, Texas and was a former long-time resident of Corpus Christi, Texas. Rita enjoyed an active lifestyle traveling and spending time with her family and friends. In Georgetown, she was active in her apartment community, teaching water aerobics and exercise classes. Her hobbies included reading, going to community theater, and shopping. In Corpus Christi, after retiring from Julian Gold, Rita served as an officer in the Senior Garden Center and remained an active member until she moved to Georgetown. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Rita was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America and KJZT. After her retirement, Rita volunteered at Spohn and Driscoll hospitals.

Rita was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Ernest William Kocian; her parents, two sisters and one brother. She is survived by five children: Mike Kocian (Susan) of Corpus Christi, Texas; Donna Richard (Randy) of Maurepas, Louisiana; David Kocian (Karen) of Chapman Ranch, Texas; Debbie Sprague (Larry) of Houston, Texas; and Darla Elsik (Dewey) of Georgetown, Texas; and one sister, Nita Kornegay (Glen) of Fort Worth, Texas; and was the proud grandmother of twelve grandchildren: Mandy (Seth) Baker, Laura Rogers, Jimmy (Allyson) Richard, Leslie (Trevor) Groom, Jessica (John) Cason, Kristina (Chris) Wright, Dianna (Eric) Herschap, Lisa Kocian, Jake Dillon, Amy Dillon, Ryan Elsik and Cooper Elsik and eleven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5 at Cage Mills Funeral Directors, 4901 Everhart Road, in Corpus Christi, immediately followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Services will be held the following morning, March 6, at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5620 Gollihar Road in Corpus Christi. Graveside services will immediately follow at Seaside Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Trevor Groom, Jimmy Richard, Jake Dillon, Eric Herschap, Chris Wright and John Cason. Honorary pallbearers are Ryan Elsik, Al Diemert and Glen Kornegay. Rita will be dearly missed by her family and her many friends.
