Col. Dwyer’s military career spanned from 1956 to 1975. He flew over 100 combat missions over Vietnam and another 58 combat missions over other parts of Southeast Asia in the F105 and the F4 which he helped design while working for McDonnell Douglas. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for outstanding heroism in 1966.
He was born in Zion, Iowa on March 8, 1936. Paul graduated from Zion Consolidated School. He was married to Dora Santana Dwyer on June 3, 1991. He was a member of VFW Post 2397, Air Force Association, and the River Rats. He had a passion for playing Solitaire and sweets.
Col. Paul Harley Dwyer is preceded in death by his son, Willie Paul Dwyer and his parents, Harley and Atholl Dwyer.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his children, Don(Marty), Yogi (Annette),Douglas and Cindy (Bob); his grandchildren, Kyle, Chad, Mikayla, James, Alexanndrya, McKenzie, Emma and Danielle; great-grandchildren, Maia, Kash, Shay, Lukas and Rylee. He is also survived by his siblings, Phyllis McFee, Roy Dwyer, Rosann Christensen and Roland Dwyer.
A viewing for Col. Dwyer will take place Wednesday, December 9, 2015 starting at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Jude Chapel Most Precious Blood Catholic Church with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Father Bob Dunn officiating.
Entombment with full military honors will follow the service at Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Corpus Christi, Texas.
