Mr. Pena was born in Rivera, Texas and lived in Corpus Christi all his life. He was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps in 1963. And the Department of Army/National Guard in 1996.
Mr. Pena worked for the Navy and retired. He began his volunteer work with the Boys Scouts of America where he served as a Scout Master for several different troops. After 30 years volunteering with the Boy Scouts, Mr. Pena continued donating his time with the City of Corpus Christi. He started out as a RSVP Volunteer with the Senior Community Service and shortly thereafter he became a permanent employee.
Mr. Pena also volunteered his time with the U.S. S. Lexington before he retired from the City of Corpus Christi in January of 2010.
His many hobbies include 11 years of playing drums with the Charlie Boeckman Band.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother.
Mr. Pena is survived by his wife of 45 years, Herminia C. Pena; children, John Christopher, Alexander, Christine (Manuel) Gaona, Steve (Elizabeth Ruth). He is also survived by 4 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 3, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Entombment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
