John was born on September 7, 1962 in Alameda, California to John and Ida Simmons. He spent his formative years in Corpus Christi, Texas and attended Mary Carroll High School. It was in high school that John found a love for tinkering with vehicles. He took this love to the United States Army right after high school.
While serving our country in the Army, John attained the honorable rank of Sergeant. After graduating basic training in Fort Benning, Georgia, he served in Germany, West Africa, and Operation Desert Storm. Throughout his eight-year career in the Army, he attained many honors and awards to include an Army Commendation Medal and three Army Achievement medals.
John met his loving wife, then Sharon Davis, when he accidentally ran into at her
high school, Roy Miller High School. They met again on a church bus headed to Denton, Texas and have been together ever since. They were married on March10, 1984 at St. John's First Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. Through Theus and downs, from Corpus Christi to Germany, John and Sharon chose each other every day.
John has been described by all that know him as a charismatic jokester who was always the life of the party. Every room he stepped into became a stage for his crazy footwork and wonderful smile. Those that know John will miss his kind-hearted nature and his willingness to always help those in need. He has left a hole in this family that cannot be filled.
Visitation will be held at St. John First Baptist Church, 3225 Brawner Parkway, Corpus Christi, Texas 78411 on Monday, July 26, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. with interment to follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 IH Access Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410.
