AMS1 John Shirley Painter

AMS1 John Shirley Painter, 77 of Corpus Christi, TX formerly of Mt. Hope, VA, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 6, 2018. Mr. Painter was born on February 2, 1941 in Maynor, WV, and was the son of the late Luther Martin & Vada Mae Worrell Painter. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Ann Painter & brother, Audrey Neale Painter.

He was an aviation structural mechanic for the P-3 Orion for the U.S. Navy and veteran of the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Navy after 20 years, he continued in civil service for another 30 years.

John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Estrella Ponce Painter; daughters, Shirley Ann (Aaron) Painter-Cox, Elizabeth Gale (Christopher) Clemmons, Vada Faith Painter, Joyce Belle Painter & fiancé, Daniel Samuelson; brothers, Alfred Darrell (Patty) Painter, Ralph Martin (Sue) Painter, Dr. Conley Houston (Carolyn) Painter & Luther Ray (Ramona) Painter; sisters, Phyllis Gail Facello, Geraldine (Hobart) Butler, Ann Louise (George) Yopp, Dianna Lynn (Barry) Booth & Jo Ann (Raymond) Booth; by grandchildren, Angela Kalani Elmer & Finley Beau Samuelson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 9:30 am at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 11:00 am at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
