Joe Barnard Browning, age 70, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011 after a hard fought battle with lung cancer. Joe was born on July 27, 1940, grew up in Corpus Christi and attended Menger Elementary, Hamlin Junior High and W.B. Ray High School. following graduation in 1958 he attended The University of Texas in Austin and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.
Joe began his career at Coastal States Gas Company in Corpus Christi followed by many years in the banking and oil and gas industries. He married Anne Ahern in 1966 and moved to San Antonio with their two children. he lived there until retirement in 2008 when he moved back to Corpus Christi to resume his passion for catch-and-release fly fishing with his good friends. He was a devout Christian and a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents H. Zeekie and Ruth Browning. He is survived by his two daughters, Carie Browning Miller and her husband, Greg, and Bonnie Browning Maynard and her husband, Blake, along with four grandsons, Grant and Garrett Miller, and Mason and Maddox Maynard. Also surviving are two sisters, Janice Browning Butler and husband, Skip, Ann Browning, and two brothers, Pat Browning and wife, Sally, and Michael Browning and wife, Yvonne, and his aunt Christine Cline and numerous coursins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Yvonne Manalo and her staff at Coastal Bend Cancer Center for their compassionate care as well as Joe's close friends, expecially Joel and Pam Hilliard, Bill and Sandy Renfrow, and Stewart and Geri Rice for their constant love and companionship to Joe during his illness.
A memorial service will be held Monday, January 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Corpus Christi, Texas.
An Angler's Prayer
I pray that I may fish until my dying day; and, when it come to my last cast, I then most humbly pray~when in the Lord's great landing net and peacefully asleep; that in His mercy I be judged good enough to keep.
