Ms. Juanita B. Cantu, daughter of the late Santos Briones and Amelia Arismendez, was born in Robstown, TX on June 27, 1931. She attended public schools in Robstown and later transferred to the public-school districts in Corpus Christi, TX.
At any early age, she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and attended numerous Catholic churches throughout the city where she dedicated her time and efforts to her faith and church. She later was united in holy matrimony and was blessed with 5 children.
Ms. Cantu was an active United States Air Force spouse participating regularly at base functions, helping other families of those serving on active duty. Prior to her marriage, she could be seen twisting bread dough through the large windows at Butter Crust bakery on Ayers St. She also worked in the cosmetic department at local HEB’s.
Her strong Christian life was as beautiful as the children that she loved so well, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life peacefully on Aug 22, 2021 at the Windsor Nursing home in Corpus Christi, TX.
She was preceded in death by Irma Briones, late wife of her brother Raymond, Daniel Briones her eldest brother, and both her parents.
She is survived by her sons, Steve Cantu and his wife, Lupe, Thomas Cantu and his wife Martha, Rene Cantu and his wife Rachel; daughters, Neida Ramon and her husband Robert (Bobby), and Vilma Cantu, along with her brothers, Raymond Briones, Santos Briones Jr. and his wife Chris, and the spouse of the late Daniel Briones Lupe and her sister, Elena Briones.
Her beautiful life will be forever cherished by her grandchildren, Crystal Burne and husband Kieran, Crystina Cantu and her boyfriend Phillip, Michael Cantu, Kandice Cantu, Desiree Ramon, Robert Ramon Jr., Sarah Cantu, Noah Cantu, and her great-grandchildren Christopher, Ariana Charity and River.
Mom, Janie as she was known by all, will be sorely missed as she brought so much joy into everyone’s life and one can only sense she is happy being with her parents and eldest brother in heaven.
Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 5-8 PM with Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church at 10:00 AM.
