Hector Yanez Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the age of 80 years old. He was born on October 6, 1943, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Hector Yanez Sr. and Leonides Yanez.
Hector attended Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he graduated in 1962. Shortly after graduating, he was inducted into the United States Army on August 22, 1962, where he proudly served his country until July 17, 1965. In April of 1970, he met the love of his life Silvia Ramirez on a blind date at the Memorial Coliseum. It was love at first sight and they were married on July 22, 1970, and were blessed with 53 beautiful years together. Hector and Silvia made their home in Corpus Christi, Texas, where they raised their four beautiful daughters. In 1977, Hector joined the Corpus Christi Fire Department where he continued his career until 2000.
Many friends and acquaintances knew Hector as the TV repairman because he worked on television and electronic repair for over 50 years. Hector had numerous nicknames, including Cortorito, Skeeta, Shorty, and Taxs.
Hector was a man who had many interests and hobbies. In his younger years, he enjoyed making yard art for all occasions and holidays. Throughout his life, Hector was a diehard sports fan. The Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros were his all-time favorite teams. He also enjoyed traveling and going to casinos. His game of choice was the slot machines. Hector enjoyed hunting and the occasional estate sale. Hector had a passion for animals and loved his dogs dearly, as they loved him. He would sit outside for hours showing them love and companionship. He was a devout member of St Pius X Catholic Church for many years.
Hector is reunited with his parents, Hector T. Yanez Sr. and Leonides Yanez; brothers, Daniel Yanez Sr., Raul Yanez Sr., and Richard Yanez; and sister, Gloria Yanez. Hector leaves his legacy to his beloved wife of 53 years, Silvia Yanez; daughters, Melissa (Jesse) Gil, Marissa (Robert) Sutherland, Mia Puentes, and Miranda (Marcos) Pena; grandchildren, Brandan (Natalie) Platz, Bryan (Jessica) Platz, Joshua Gil, Aryanna (Gavin) Solis, Bradley Platz, Anika (Juan) Flores, Robert A (Caitlin Salinas) Sutherland, Ryan (Lexie) Sutherland, Raiden Sutherland, Denay Puentes, Dracen Yanez, Carissa Pena, Camryn Pena, and Caden Pena; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held at the St. Pius X Catholic Church on Friday, December 29th from 9:00 am to 11:00 am then funeral mass at 11:00 am. Inurnment will be at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery promptly at 1:00 pm. There will not be a procession but all are welcome to join the family for the inurnment. Food and fellowship to follow at the St. Pius X Parish Hall.
