Gilberto proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and throughout his life worked and retired from the Corpus Christi Army Depot and also worked for the City of Corpus Christi Wastewater Department.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Maria Luisa Ortiz; 5 children, Nellie Escamilla (Carlos), Gilberto Ortiz, Jr. (Laura), Carmen Leticia Ortiz, Alberto Ortiz (Gloria) and Patricia Garcia (Gerardo). Also left behind to cherish his memory are 12 grandchildren; Carlos III, Marivel and Andres Escamilla, Gilberto III, Stephanie, Joshua, Jasmin and Sophia Ortiz, Alberto Jr. and Alexis Ortiz and Victor and Eric Garcia.
The family will be receiving friends at Funeraria del Angel on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 11:30 am at Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church with interment to follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
