Dolores “Lola” Serena Gomez completed her last chapter in life at age 84 years on December 24, 2016 surrounded by family and friends. She was called home to our Lord to reunite with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Tomas Gomez, Sr.; one son, Tomas Jr.; her parents, Jose Angel Serena and Manuela Reyes Serena; four brothers, Jose Angel, Francisco, Apolonio and David Serena.
Lola is survived by six daughters, Dorotea Rosalinda “Dorothy” Gomez, Audelia “Del” Gomez (Benito Garcia), Dolores “ Lori” Pedroza (Andrew) of San Antonio, Texas, Elda Gomez Ceballos, Erlinda Gomez- Zepeda (Frank) and Juanita “ Janie” Gomez; one sister, Juana Garza of Merced, California; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, nephews and other beloved relatives.
She was born on April 24, 1932 in Odem, Texas. She married her husband and raised seven children; 6 girls and one boy. She lived in Hale Center, Texas for several years before moving to Corpus Christi on December of 1966.
Lola was a permanent fixture in her Westside neighborhood on Mohawk Street. She had many friends and acquaintances. No one who met Lola forgot her infectious passion and never-ending affair with plants and flowers. Lola’s garden was the envy of many. She has quite the green thumb and everywhere she went and she saw a plant or flower that caught her eye she just had to have a cutting. She enjoyed listening and dancing to Spanish music. And boy did she love to dance, polkas, cumbias, huapangos… you name it. Dear Lola, you will be greatly missed! Rest in Peace lovely lady.
Her family would like to thank Nurses on Wheels Home Health and Hospice, and Padre Home Providers. Special Thanks to her caretakers, Janie Bazan Cage, Vicki laurel, Andrea Gonzales and Sylvia Cruz; also, Doralisa Reyna who provided her weekly Eurchasristic Sacrament. Many Thanks to family and friends for their calls, prayers and visits.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Memorial Holly, 3442 Holly Rd. on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 540 Hiawatha St. on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Rd.
Pallbearers are Javier Garcia, Adam Pedroza, David Ceballos, Rolando Molina, Primo Molina and Tomas Gomez, lll. Honorary pallbearers are Miguel Ceballos, Mark Pedroza, David Serena and Marcus Soliz.
