Amelia Garcia Perez went to be with our Lord on October 24, 2024, at the young age of 85. Amelia was the youngest of thirteen, born on November 3, 1938, to Juan and Catalina Garcia in Asherton, Texas. During her senior year at W.B. Ray High School, Amelia met the love of her life, Fidel. Their marriage of 61 years was built on a foundation of faith, love, and commitment to family. Amelia enjoyed spending time with family and friends and always welcoming people into her home. A woman of faith, Amelia loved the Lord and shared her faith with others. Her family will miss seeing her smile, hearing her laughter at inappropriate jokes, and her daily text messages.
Amelia is preceded in death by her husband, Fidel, parents Juan and Catalina Garcia, and siblings: Zapopa (Popita) Benavides, Jose Angel Garcia, Maria De Jesus (Chita) Molina, Concepcion (Concha) Martinez, Guadalupe (Lupe) Gonzalez, Jesus Juan (Chuy) Garcia, Mariana (Mari) Bautista, Juan (Juanito) Garcia, Jr., Antonia Dolores (Tonia) Veloz, and Emma Quesada.
Amelia is survived by her children Teresa (Steve) Reitz, Dolores Perez, Belinda (Roy) Rios, Patricia Perez, Celica (Kevin) Belcher, and Fidel (Songme) Perez; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; siblings Catalina (Mina) Cruz and Victoria (Rita) Heradia; and numerous nieces and nephews. All of whom Amelia loved deeply.
A visitation for Amelia will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home & Cemetery (8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi). A holy rosary will be recited in her honor on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at 7:00 PM. A funeral mass, a celebration of her life, will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (5830 Williams Dr, Corpus Christi), followed by burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery—reception to follow at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
