Robert (“Bob”) Ackerman, a devoted family man, respected business leader, sports-enthusiast and passionate community member, passed away on December 13, 2024 at the age of 80 years. Born in the San Gabriel Valley, Bob was a multi-sport athlete in his youth, displaying a competitive spirit and drive that would continue in many ways throughout his life. He was an exceptional student and earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from La Sierra University, where he excelled academically. Bob then went on to earn a Master’s in Health Administration from UCLA, setting the stage for a successful career in hospital administration. For over 20 years, he served as an executive at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles and at American Medical International (AMI), where he was known for his leadership, operational skill, and commitment to improving healthcare. After his corporate career, Bob followed his entrepreneurial spirit and went on to own and operate a Kentucky Fried Chicken and Taco Bell franchise in Lincoln Heights, California. He grew the business into one of the largest-grossing franchises in Southern California for many years. Proudly, he served as President of the KFC Board for Southern California Advertising, earning recognition for his leadership and support of the KFC franchisees.
Beyond his professional achievements, Bob was deeply committed to giving back to his community. He regularly supported high school and youth programs, always seeking to inspire and uplift those around him. His leadership extended far beyond the workplace, and he was well-regarded as a mentor and friend by those who had the privilege of working with him. Bob is survived by his wife of over 53 years (Cathy Ackerman), his two children, Chris Ackerman (Casey Ackerman) and Jennifer Johnson (Devon Johnson), and his three beautiful grandchildren, Avery Ackerman, Madeline Johnson and Gavin Johnson. A celebration of Bob's life will be held in February or March 2025.
