Jesse was born November 8, 1959 in Upland, California. Jesse’s family later moved to Ridgecrest, California where he attended Burroughs High School. In high school Jesse excelled academically and in sports, both baseball and golf. Jesse was a star player in baseball well known for the number of no-hitter games he pitched and the number of home runs he tallied in his career.
Jesse’s real love was golf. In high School Jesse became course champion at a Los Angeles course hitting a 65 at the age of 17. That record stood for several years. When he was offered “full-ride” college scholarships for both baseball and golf Jesse chose golf. Jesse attended Utah State where he became a professional golfer. Jesse maintained his professional golfer status his entire life. Jesse became a golf instructor to family and friends in his senior years, building and designing clubs for his many devoted students.
Jesse became a nurse in 1988 and worked as a Case Manager for most of his 35 year career. Jesse was well regarded by doctors, staff and patients for his quick and biting sense of humor as well as his kindness and compassion to patients and family members. Jesse received a commendation from a family member who referred to Jesse as a “Gem”. From that day forward all of Jesse’s administrators and co-workers addressed him as “The Gem”. Jesse was selected by many of the doctors he worked with to be a golf team member at local CAHF-PAF charity events. His teams always finished first or second. Jesse also received awards for “Closest to the Hole” “Longest Drive” and “Hole in One”
Jesse was a beloved husband, stepfather and grandfather. He taught his stepson (a professional surfer) golf who later became 2019 course champion at Strawberry Farm Golf course in Irvine. His granddaughters, Harper and Finley would love to put makeup on Jesse and decorate his bald head with everything from play dough to stickers to chalk to washable magic markers. On their birthdays, Jesse would prepare their special request dinner of BBQ steak, fried rice and street corn. Jesse did not care for cake so his birthday was celebrated with his favorite Banana Cream Pie.
Jesse and Cyndi met on August 26, 1983 and married 13 years later in December of 1996. Jesse and Cyndi celebrated 41 years together filled with laughter, friendship, a few tears along the way, but always love.
