BURGESS, Thomas Walter - The family of Thomas Walter Burgess (Tom, Tommy and Grumps) sadly announce his passing on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the age of 76 years. Tom leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Beverly (nee Wharton). He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Lori (Matt), Julie (Jason) and Danna (Steven), his grandchildren Justin, Larissa, Lauren, Alexia, Dylan, Sabrina and Jake, his brother Terry (Nancy) and his sister Gladys (Dave) as well as many other family members and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Ruskin and Hilda (nee Unsworth), his brothers, Doug and Albert and his sister, Joyce.
We will remember Tom for his charm and his sense of humour and for being a wonderful husband, father and a true friend for all those that had the good fortune to know him. Born and raised in Cornwall, Ontario he married his high school sweetheart and was by her side until the end. Tom was most known for his silly antics that would later lead to funny stories to be told for years to come. He was a man who enjoyed living life to its fullest and getting the most laughs along the way. He had a charm about him that he used right up until his last days, persuading the nurses to get him a muffin or a chocolate bar from the vending machine. He was lovingly referred to as the “Candy Man” as he strolled around his residence handing out Lindt chocolates to anyone he could.
He had a passion for cooking and was always up to creating something special for family and friends when they would come to visit.
He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps, Stormont and was named “The Most Proficient Sea Cadet in Ontario” in 1962 and he was promoted to sub lieutenant to carry out the duties of a divisional officer in October 1964.
Tommy spent his working adult life in the elevator industry where he was well respected and loved by his colleagues.
