She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Merle Wells, brother, Robert Bedingfield, and sister-in-law, Frances Bedingfield. Loved mother of Mark Wells (Elise) of Summerstown, Linda Hutchinson (Mark) of Ingleside, and Janet Niezen (Rick) of Stratford. Dear sister-in-law of Lyle Wells (Marilyn) of Woodstock. Sadly, missed by seven grandchildren Shawn (Katie), Sheldon (Christi), Spence (Kacey), Tom (Amber), Jacob (Kaitlan), Wade, and Joel. Great grandmother to Rory, Jane, Parker, Beau, Norah and soon-to-be-born great grandson.
Shirley married her high school sweetheart (Merle) in 1953 and worked for the CNIB in Cornwall before starting a family in 1957, moving to Ingleside with her family after the flooding of the Seaway. She was the organist and choirmaster at St. Matthews Presbyterian church in Ingleside for many years, later becoming a member of the board of managers for the church. Shirley volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society as a canvasser and later as the branch campaign chairman. She loved the river and enjoyed swimming and boating with her family as well as a good brisk walk most days. She loved entertaining, often with music, whether on the accordion with her father on the guitar and later playing the piano at McConnell Manor and Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge. We would like to thank Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge for their compassionate care of our mother.
Dementia may have taken our mother's memory, but it hadn't taken her soulful smile, dry wit, musical talents, or boundless love for our father and deep love for her family.
Arrangements entrusted to Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, 20 Seventh St. West, (613-932-8482). Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by the family. Messages of condolence may be left at www.lahaiesullivan.ca.
