Madeline Rose Laffin - “Maddie” who resided at Tsiionkwanonsote, went on her journey on August 10, 2017. Born an only child on March 17, 1919 to Samuel and Blanche Morris. Baptized in the St. Regis Catholic Church. Madeline married Joseph Laffin in February of 1938 at the St. Regis Catholic Church with Father Egan presiding. Her husband Joseph was the son of Jake and Cecelia Laffin. Madeline was a lifelong resident of Akwesasne and a fluent Mohawk speaker. Madeline attended schooling to 8th grade in Edwards, NY. She assisted her mother on the local milk truck as well as kept jobs at Cornell Laundry. Maddie owned M & M restaurant in Massena for many years. Madeline was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed crochet, making pies, spending time with her grandchildren & great grandchildren. She loved playing bingo and going to the casino. She loved going to the races and wrestling. She was an incredibly independent woman- a wild spitfire in her day. She had an amazing sense of humor and was quite fashionable. She taught her family to be fearless and stand for their convictions. She loved to reminisce about friends on the rez and Momma Thomas stories. Madeline was blessed with eight children. She is survived by seven; Dick Laffin (Shine), Mayferd LaRose (Wayne), Orrie Laffin (Sarah), Jerry Laffin (Lynda), Henry Laffin (Jean), Sesir Herne (Ray) and Esther Dufresne (Thomas). She was a proud grandmother to many grandchildren including- Dee Dee, Joseph, Allison, Jon Paul, Patrick, Terry, Trudy, Todd, Tammy, Tracy, Bobby Jo, Todd, Chad, Amy, Tammy, Melissa, Melanie, Lori, Danielle, Amber, Sarah, Jenna, Joanne, April, Geena Lynn and Steven. She was a proud great-grandmother of Courtney, Sam, Dudes, Travis, Justin, Kiel, Lacey, Tyler, Alisha, Keema, Dalton, Joseph, Alisha, Ashley, Jimmy, Tara, Mariah, Tyler, Nicholas, Mikel, Kyle, Ryan, Nicholas, Ozzy, Alyssa, Bailey, Benny, Ashley, Hunter, Mackenzie, Hattie, Ryan, Elexus Keisha, Christopher, Joyce, Gage, Katelynn, Mathew, Rachel, Ienonkwahawis, Kahetahawi, Tharonhianente, Charla, Steevi Jo, Quinton, Sydney, Spencer, Matthew, Gordon V, Wyatt, Joshua and Samuel. Madeline also loved spending time with her great-great-grandchildren; Makayla, Cortland, Marley, Ty, Trayce, Janae, Tehanonsakahnion, Tehawennahkhwa, Lanie, Colton, Everly, Kayla, Westin, Darla, Drayson, Daylon, Bella, Kyren, Storm, Donovan, Daiton, Dextin, Kahsennakweni:io, Kaisley, Lil Benny, Paiton, Paislee, Braden, Bryson, Hunter, Riley, Raylin, Grayson…and two on the way. Madeline is survived by several relatives in Edwards, NY. She is loved by the entire Laffin clan. Madeline was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Blanche Morris, her husband, Joseph on April 21, 1973, her daughter, Catherine Rose King born November 12 and passed on February 17, 2006, her grandchildren, Bernadette Rourke on October 5, 2004 and Tina Marie Thompson on August 17, 2006. She is also predeceased by her son-in-law, Eugene King, on November 12, 1997. Madeline Laffin will be brought home to the Snye Homemakers on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017 for viewing by close family, friends and relatives. Funeral arrangements under the care and direction of Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Homes, East Branch, 614 First Street East (613-933-2841).
