Justin Scheffer

Justin L. Scheffer passed in the comfort of his home in Cornwall with his wife by his side on Saturday, July 23, 2022 after a courageous six month battle with cancer, at the young age of 33. Following a lengthy hospital stay, Justin enjoyed spending the last few weeks of his life at home surrounded by his family and closest friends.

Devoted husband of Krystal Delorme and loving father of Brady Scheffer. Krystal was the love of his life and best friend; Justin adored Brady with every fibre of his being, and was the most wonderful daddy.

Justin is also survived by his loving parents, Mike and Judy (Labelle) Scheffer. Dear brother of Jordan (Sheena), Brandon (Brittany), Ryan (Katelyn), and his sister Brianna. Dear grandson of Maureen Nicholson. Dear son-in-law to Audrey and Patrice Provencher, and Nancy and Robert Delorme. Dear brother-in-law to Robin (Mark), Sherri, and Joel (Livia). Dear uncle of Grace, Quinn, Merrik, Skyler (Emma), Dante, Devon and Chase. Justin will be greatly missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins and his many loving friends.

Justin worked in the family business, M.S. Mechnical & Sons, where he was affectionately known as “The Bull” because of his strength. The same strength that was evident during his illness, where he was so brave during his numerous treatments and surgeries during the five months he spent in the Ottawa Hospital, often referred to as the “polite young man from Cornwall” as he quickly became a staff favourite. Although there were surely some heart felt goodbyes, the hospital staff were more than happy to see Justin return home to his family.

Justin had numerous friends and family that he very much enjoyed fishing with on the river in his spare time. So much so, that many of them knew of his ‘not so secret’ fishing hole, later referred to as the “Scheffer hole”.

Justin also loved hockey and enjoyed playing every week in a league with his friends. He was also a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Go Leafs Go!

Justin also loved playing basketball with his friends in the backyard, and was known to take his love and competition for the game very seriously. The score boards on the garage walls tell the stories, including his wife’s winnings that were allegedly miscalculated every win.

Justin loved spending quiet cuddle time with Krystal, Brady and their fur-baby Gizmo, as well as attending larger family gatherings spending time with loved ones, where he’d often encourage family games of 31.

Justin loved and was loved by so many. This was evident by the amount of family and friends, and even strangers, who helped support Justin and his family during his illness. Donations, food, well wishes and prayers made a difficult time a little more bearable.

Justin’s family would also like to express their gratitude to the team of physicians and nurses involved in Justin’s care, more specifically, oncology and neurosurgery at the Ottawa Hospital, who worked so hard to support Justin’s recovery. We would also like to thank Bayshore home care services for their genuine support and compassion in helping us keep Justin comfortable at home.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022 in St. Peter’s Church 2900 Second Street East at 9:30 a.m.. There will be an informal Celebration of Life (pizza party) immediately following the service. All are welcome.
