It is with profound sadness and grief we share that Donald Bruce Hallberg, teacher, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, great-uncle, friend and lover of children, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23 at St. Joseph Continuing Care Centre.
Don was husband to Nancy (née Hill), father of Julia and Jana, father to Jim and Ian Davis.
Don was born in Jamestown NY and is one of seven siblings, the late Arlene, Nancy, Ron, Judy, Beverley and twin the late Walt.
Beloved grandfather to Tristan, Carrigan, Samantha, Liam and Colin.
Don obtained his B.Sc. At Evangel Christian College in Springfield, Missouri after being drafted into the American army. He was recruited by the Pentecostal School Board of Newfoundland where he began his teaching career. He transitioned into the ministry as a Lay Minister with the United Church of Canada when his family moved to Ontario. He returned to teaching where he remained until his retirement. Teaching was his passion his entire life.
Don loved to sing and had a lovely tenor voice, he sang in his church choir and the Centennial Choir, he played violin at our church and in area nursing homes where he would bend a knee to serenade folks in wheelchairs.
He was an avid golfer, loved riding his Gold Wing, volunteered at Hospice and Lost Villages. He was a Boy Scout leader in Lancaster and was on the Williamstown Fair Board.
Family will be in attendance at the M. John Sullivan Funeral Home, 341 Pitt Street, Cornwall (613-938-1039), on Friday, October 25 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
