He leaves behind his loving wife Marjorie (née Hawn) and joins his late wife of 48 years Elizabeth Jean “Bette“(Lefebvre).
He leaves behind his daughters, Marilyn MacDonell (Allen), Carol Nakic (Slavko), Shelley Moke (Bobby) and Crystal Sergerie (JF Lefebvre) and stepchildren Ann Dore (Marcel) and Carson Boyd (Martha).
Don is survived by his sister Dorothy Deebank (Heidi), along with his grandchildren Angela & Chad MacDonell, Lance & Shane Nakic, Adam & Erinn Moke, Caleb & Sophie Sergerie, Ryan Douglas and Carson & Dustin Boyd and 13 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by his parents, Charles and Grace (née Abrams) Deebank along with his grandson Steven Nakic and his great-granddaughter Lily Douglas.
Don was born in Dickinson’s Landing and remained living in Long Sault for the duration of his life after the St. Lawrence Seaway Project.
He worked alongside mother and father at Western Tire then started Deebank National Lease, and eventually purchased St. John’s Transfer in 1978. Don worked at his business until the age of 89. He wore many hats in his lifetime, as he was a former Cornwall City Councillor, the President of the St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery for over 36 years, along with sitting on numerous boards and committees throughout the City of Cornwall.
Don was a lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan and faithfully followed his favourite hockey teams, the Cornwall Royals and the Cornwall Colts. Golfing was his favourite pastime, which he did until his mid 80’s. Don was heavily involved in church life and in his younger years enjoyed driving the school bus picking up children in the area for Sunday School.
Family will be in attendance at Lahaie & Sullivan Cornwall Funeral Home West Branch 20 Seventh Street West (613-932-8482) on Tuesday May 2 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Chapel Service will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Scott Sayers and Pastor Stephen King officiating. Committal to be held at St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery, Long Sault, Ontario.
As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to Cornwall Hospice or to the Alzheimer Society Cornwall and District Chapter would be appreciated by the family.
