Ruth Parker Dalton

Ruth Parker Dalton, 97, of Huntsville, AL and former life-long resident of Alcorn Co., passed away quietly in her sleep on December 5, 2022. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Dalton was born April 30, 1925 to Eben Leroy Parker and Laura Dickerson Parker. She was a graduate of Corinth High School and attended Northeast Mississippi Junior College. During the war years, she was an employee of the Buckeye Cellulose Company. After the birth of her children, she dedicated herself to being a homemaker, wife, and mother. She returned to the workforce after the unexpected death of her husband in 1966 and retired from the State of Mississippi as a caseworker for the Alcorn County Department of Human Resources. Due to declining health, she moved to Huntsville, AL in 2003 to be closer to her family. She remained there until her recent passing.

Ruth Dalton led a very long, fulfilling life. A child of the Depression; a full-fledged member of the Greatest Generation of WWII; a widowed, single, working-mom at age 41, a resilient survivor who always found a way to persevere. She will forever serve as an inspiration to family members who knew and loved her, as well as future generations of her family who will only hear her life story.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dalton was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Dalton, Jr., and her sister, Beatrice Parker George.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet Dalton Sholes (Bill) of Huntsville, AL; her son, Larry Dalton of Brandon, MS; four grandsons, Eric Sholes (Jennifer) of Huntsville, AL, Chris Dalton of Norman, OK, Clint Sholes (Jill) of Nashville, TN and Brad Dalton of Brandon, MS; great grandchildren, Parker and Will Sholes of Huntsville, AL and Sebastian and Theo Sholes of Nashville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

The family has entrusted the care of the family and Ruth to McPeters Funeral Directors in Corinth, Mississippi.
