Visitation will be 5:00 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, and from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
Mr. Norbert Coleman passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Dogwood Plantation Assisted Living. He was born September 20, 1945 in Alcorn County to Ronel “Babe” and Dimple “Dimp” Coleman. He was a graduate of Kossuth High School Class of 1963 and attended Northeast Mississippi Junior College where he was enrolled in the Drafting and Auto Mechanics technical classes. He was employed at Tyrone Hydraulics for a few years then became an employee of Columbia Gulf Transmission Company. While working at Columbia Gulf he managed to run a small livestock and row crop farm. He retired after 35 years of service and continued to operate the farm until his health declined in the fall of 2016.
Mr. Coleman was a member of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was Chairman of the Cemetery Committee. Norbert and Diane enjoyed attending worship services and fellowship with Tishomingo Chapel Baptist Church and West Corinth Pentecostal Church when possible. He was a member of the Alcorn County 4-H Advisory Council and the Alcorn County Cattlemen’s Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronel “Babe” Coleman and Dimple “Dimp” Dilworth Coleman, two brothers, Ralph Coleman and Dennis Coleman, one sister, Linda Maude Lambert, one sister-in-law, Sue Coleman, one brother-in-law, Steve Lambert, one nephew, Kevin Coleman, his father-in-law Elbert Mitchell and mother-in-law Mae Mitchell.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Sandra Diane Coleman; son, Brian Coleman; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Billy Mitchell; granddaughter, Eryn Coleman; special family friend, Leigh Whitten and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Coleman was known as the “Governor” of Kossuth. He took pride in his farmstead and equipment. He toiled each day to make sure structures and equipment looked their best. He loved the community around his home and as many have said, he was the best neighbor anyone could have.
Bro. Lamar Chamblee, Bro. Merl Dixon and Bro. Cory Flanagan will officiate the service under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Shawn Coleman, Scott Coleman, Keith Coleman, Walter Hill Coleman, Joe Coleman and Shane Huff. Honorary pallbearers are the KHS Class of 1963 and former and current employees of Columbia Gulf.
