William George Wetzel, Jr. was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 22, 1938; the only child of William George Wetzel, Sr. and Anna Margaret Bennett Wetzel. He died peacefully on July 1, 2020 at home after a prolonged illness and surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife Linda Angus Wetzel; daughter Lori Salas; son Jim Wetzel and his wife Marie; daughter-in-law Lori Jean Wetzel (wife of his late son, William G. Wetzel, III); grandson Eric Salas and his lady, Amy Jones; granddaughters Megan and Amanda Wetzel; grandsons Connor and Dylan Wetzel; great grandson Nolan Michael Salas, and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews from the Simmons family, the Barbour families, the Angus Families, the Rinaldi family, the Steed Family, the Tsang family, the Common family, and the Adler family.
William was a graduate of Miami Jackson High School and the University of Miami where he became a life long member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Afterwards he attended the Miami Police Academy and worked as a police officer before attending law school at the University of Florida School of Law. After becoming an attorney, he served the City if Hialeah as a City Prosecutor in the municipal court system and went on to become a Municipal Judge handling misdemeanor cases. Later he became Assistant City Attorney and ultimately City Attorney.
William was a generous man who had a wonderful sense of humor and was a very loyal friend to many. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
