Dr. Jose Antonio Gutierrez is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Maria of Coral Springs, Fl; His sons: Tony Gutierrez of Coral Springs, Fl, Marco Gutierrez (Kelly) of Centreville, Va, Dr. Giancarlo Gutierrez (Michelle) of Statesboro, Ga. His daughter, Maria Gutierrez of Fairfax, Va and his Grandchildren: Candice Gutierrez of Ashburn, Va, Katerina Morgan (Drew) of Myrtle Beach, Sc, Marco Gutierrez, Jr of Falls Church, Va, Isabella Gutierrez of Statesboro, Ga, Helen Gutierrez of Statesboro, Ga and Vivianna Gutierrez of Statesboro, Ga and Great-granddaughter, Faith Morgan of Myrtle Beach, SC. He is preceded in death by his siblings Alvaro Gutierrez and Viola Arrunategui of Lima, Peru.
J Antonio was born on July 20, 1928 in Trujillo, Peru to Daniel and Susana Gutierrez. He graduated from San Marcos Medical School in Lima, Peru with a Doctorate of Medicine. He came to the US in 1958 and did his training in Jacksonville, NY and Boston before returning to Peru in 1961 to marry Maria Rocchetti. The newlyweds moved to the US where he completed his residency and they welcomed two sons and a daughter. He finally settled in Virginia where he established his private practice in McLean as an Internist with a specialty in Gastroenterology and his youngest son was born. His undeniable commitment and devotion to his patients was his greatest passion, second only to his family. He retired in 1999 and moved from his home in Oakton, VA to Coral Springs, Fl where he remained until his death. The couple welcomed 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. His family remembers him as a loving husband, a kind and patient father and a wonderful Nonno who encouraged them to dream big and pursue their goals.
Jose Antonio loved to sing and would often sing at parties and to his lovely wife, Maru. He was a witty individual who always had a mischievous smile and loved to play jokes especially during canasta tournaments with family and friends. He was passionate about his soccer and basketball. He enjoyed coaching his children and watching his beloved Peruvian soccer team and the Boston Celtics on TV. Above all else, he loved being with his family . . . especially his grandchildren whom he would say “You love them double since they are your children’s children”.
The funeral mass will be on Friday November 26, 2021 at 11am at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Coral Springs, FL.
