Barb was born on January 30, 1961 in Pittsburgh, PA, to Edna (Saylor) Steele Martinella and the late Robert Christopher Steele. In 1983, she graduated from Waynesburg College (PA), married her college sweetheart, Duane Marker, and moved to Florida, where she worked for more than 25 years as a Photographer and Studio Manager at University Studios in Fort Lauderdale for her dear friend Jerry Lang, before retiring in 2013.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 37 years, Duane, her mother, Edna Martinella, siblings and spouses Suzann and Frank Murphy, Randall and Janise Steele, Ronald and Jeri Steele, and Patricia and Michael Goddard, Duane’s sister, Carol Pike, his brother David Marker and spouse Anita. She will also be remembered by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins from the Steele, Saylor, Marker and Knight families, and countless friends, both locally in south Florida and also from high school and college.
Barb was a wonderful, giving woman, and a loving wife to Duane. She had no children, but raised their miniature dachshunds, Buddy, Peanut and Buster as if they were.
Her passion was photography, both professionally and as a personal hobby. She was always the unofficial photographer for family weddings, birthdays, family reunions and other events. She enjoyed boating, fishing and traveling, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. We will always remember her as a cheerful, outgoing and caring person, who always put the needs and care of others before hers, even during her serious health conditions.
Due to the current pandemic environment, no services will be held. At her request, Barbara’s ashes will be scattered in the ocean off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, her favorite place on earth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Barbara’s memory to either the Cleveland Clinic or the American Cancer Society.
