William C Johnson, 83, passed away on December 4, 2019 in Temple, Texas. He was born on June 6, 1936 in Mercer Township, Illinois to his mother, Vivian Ruth Johnson. He was raised in Cutler, Illinois. He married Velma J. Dyer in 1956, and together they raised three children.
Mr. Johnson served in the US Army for 20 years, to include serving in Vietnam. He retired from the Army in 1974, then opened House of Floors in Copperas Cove. After many years in the flooring business, he became a home builder.
He was known to all who loved him as “Dollar Bill”. He lived his life to the fullest, and was always the life of the party. His boisterous laugh and smile lit up any room. He loved his family, his dog Gracie, the Dallas Cowboys, slot machines, bird watching, and Family Feud! He was a patriot who loved his country, and had a fierce love and respect for his American flag. Mr. Johnson was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 502 in Woodhull, Illinois.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his sons, Jim Johnson (Gina) and Ron Johnson (April); his daughter, Pam Rogers (Larry); his nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, his two sisters; Irene (Throop) Theis and Mary (Throop) Stork, sister-in-law Pat Throop and numerous niece and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian; his father, Clarence Throop; brother, Eugene (Red) Throop; brother, Tom Throop; wife of 50 years, Velma J (Dyer) Johnson; and wife of 10 years, Eileen (Adams) Johnson; sister-in-law, Janet Throop; brother-in-law Vernon Stork.
Visitation will be at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove on Tuesday, December 10 from 6 – 8:00pm. Graveside service will be on Wednesday, December 11 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation that honors our veterans, first responders, and their families.
