Vera A. Bynum, age 79, of Copperas Cove, Texas passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Vera was born February 24, 1942 in Crockett, Texas. She had 3 brothers and 5 sisters. John L. Downs Jr (Junior), Tiny Wilson, Dorine Kirksey, RL Downs, Nolan Downs, Josie Hester, Janita Waller, Anita Harris
She attended all or most of her school years in Crockett, Texas.
John and Vera got married on March 27, 1959 in Grapeline, Texas at church of Christ. Vera named went from Vera A. Downs to Vera A. Bynum
They became parents on July 1, 1960 to a daughter Deborah Bynum and then again on August 6, 1961 to a son John D. Bynum Jr aka Danny. John and Vera moved to Copperas Cove in summer of 1972.
When she was younger mom she was a den mother for cub scouts, supportive of her son’s sports events, supportive of her daughters involvement in girl scouts,
Growing up Vera took care of her siblings. Vera’s dad educated them about nature and people watching. She enjoyed reading magazines and some books. Vera watched soap operas when she was young adult (Days of Our Lives, Young and Restless, Another World, General Hospital). When she got older Vera enjoyed reading the newspaper, family time, her peacocks, sitting in her living room watching the birds at the feeders, spending time with family and friends, going on vacations with her husband and family, listening to music (old gospel music, country), and watching tv (watching the news, Golden Girls, Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right, 20/20. Family reunions and high school reunions were important to her to attend.
John and Vera traveled a lot during their children's lives due to John’s military career. They lived in Germany, France, and traveled to all the surrounding countries that bordered Germany and France which included a ferry to England.
Some of her favorite vacations were Bransing, Missouri, Seven Coves by Houston, Texas, Lake of the Pines in East Texas, Canyon Lake at New Braunfels, Texas
She owned many pets. She had many dogs (Dinky, Red, Girl, Sambo, Penny), and lots of outside cats. They also had peacocks, geese, turkeys, chickens, and pigs at different times of her life.
If someone asked who Vera was she would be explained as a loving-devoted wife, amazing sister, mom, grandma, and great-grandma. She was a loving, caring, friendly lady. She could be stubborn and mean at times but who isn’t, she just had a knack for it. She was not afraid to tell you how she thought or felt.
She is preceded by her husband John D. Bynum, her parents, her brother John L. Downs Jr (Junior), daughter in law Cindy Bynum
She is survived by siblings: Tiny Wilson, Dorine Kirksey, RL Downs, Nolan Downs, Josie Hester, Janita Waller, Anita Harris; Daughter: Deborah Reed; Son: John (Danny) Bynum Jr; Step-son: Ronnie Bynum and his wife Carol; Grandkids: Matthew Howard, Josie McCarthy, Dustin and Nikki Whatley, Brandy and Chad Simnacher, and Jessica and James Rhodes; Great-grandkids include Alex, Chyanne, Cynthia, Jay, Dustin Charles, Austyn, Skyler, Hunter, Kaydin, Blaze, Macinzee, and Tanner
A visitation for Vera will be held Monday, September 27, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 211 W Avenue B, Copperas Cove, Texas. A funeral service will occur Monday, September 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM, 211 W Avenue B, Copperas Cove, Texas. A burial will occur Monday, September 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, Texas 76542.
