Stanley was born on July 21, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY. At the early age of 17, Stanley joined the Marines, thereby beginning a long career dedicated to serving his country. He served in the Marines, the Army, and the Army National Guard until 1988 at which time he retired. During his military career, he served in both the Korean and Vietnam War. He was a highly decorated serviceman receiving many medals including two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star, and Army Commendation Medal.
Following his military career, Stanley worked briefly as a long shoreman in Texas. However, he soon returned to a position of service as a Sheriff officer in Bell County, Texas and later as a fireman at Fort Hood and Copperas Cove. Stanley developed a strong passion for being a firefighter and was proud of his public service. He retired from the Fort Hood Fire Department after 25 years of service, but continued to support the community in a volunteer role. He was a proud member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the American Legion Post #223, and the Veterans of Foreign War Post. He volunteered at the VA Hospital in Temple and for the Copperas Cove Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association from which he received commendations for his support.
Stanley was a fun-loving soul. He loved to joke, laugh, and tell stories. His desire to conjure up nicknames never ceased. He was a Wheel of Fortune devotee; never missing a show. He was a dog-lover and spoke of his pets often. Most of all, he loved his family and his friends.
He leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his wife Matsuko of 27 years, his brother Martin Rothstein of NY, his sisters Rosalyn Brunwasser and Sylvia Bryant of FL, his step-children Daniel Cox, Akiko Flores, Linda Webb, Shannon Sturgeon and their spouses, all of Austin, his daughters Laurie Rothstein and Janet Rothstein of NY, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Fannie Mark Rothstein, and his sister Shirley Winter.
Services will be held on Wed, Aug 14th at 10:00 a.m. at the Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. Following, Stanley will be laid to rest at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
