Steven “Steve” Leslie Allen was born in Dallas, TX on October 15, 1952. Most of his childhood was spent in Livingston, TX, and Irving, TX. Steve completed a few courses at Mountain View Community College before he was drafted in 1972 into the US Army, where he was stationed in Korea. He was discharged in 1974, and he lived in Texas for the remainder of his life.
He was a talented handyman and an outdoorsman that enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. He was a Bassmaster member for multiple years. Steve’s woodworking artistry was appreciated by many friends and family, and he built entertainment centers, bread boxes, shelves, decks, and many other well-crafted household items.
A bit of a prankster, he was always hiding around corners and waiting to scare passersby. He loved telling stories or jokes, and would regularly “goose” people. He enjoyed Halloween for the opportunity to don a scary mask, play a prank with a spider on a string, and display his creativity. When carving a pumpkin, he was able to translate his knack for art and woodworking skills to create impressive designs; such as, a scenic picture of an airplane with a full moon backdrop.
Steve truly enjoyed his 22 years of employment at Southwest Airlines; where he retired as a Materials Specialist in 2013. In addition to being a jokester, he was also known to bake cakes for coworkers on their birthdays. It was at Southwest Airlines that he met the love of his life, Patsy Givens, and they were a “LUV Couple” for the 21 years leading-up to his departure from this world. They enriched each other’s lives in an indescribable way, and Steve loved her immensely. Margaritas will never be the same.
Alzheimer’s took him too soon, but Steve will be fondly remembered by friends and family as a soul that injected humor and love into their lives. At 67 years old, Steve was released from the disease and passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020.
Survived by many good friends and family members, Steve’s memory will be cherished by many people. Immediate family includes Steve’s daughter, Leslie Allen (Irving); son, Nathan Allen & daughter-in-law, Chi Mai (Cedar Hill); partner, Patsy Givens (Euless); family members, Ryan Gerfers & Andreana Gerfers (Princeton); brother, Tim Allen (White Settlement); sister, Marilyn O’Donnel & brother-in-law, John O’Donnel (Lindale); brother, Rusty Allen & sister-in-law, Diann Allen (Springtown); niece, Rebecca Allen (Fort Worth). He also leaves grandchildren, Evelyn Allen (Cedar Hill), Isabella Gerfers (Princeton), & Chase Gerfers (Princeton). Steve was preceded in death by his parents Dolores “Dee” Allen and J. Frank Allen.
A gathering of friends and family for a Memorial Service will occur at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home, 400 Freeport Parkway, Coppell, TX 75019.
