Olive Juanita Walker 88, of Irving, Texas passed away March 26, 2018, at Silverado Memory Care Community, in Irving Texas. She was born February 28, 1930, in Camaguey, Cuba to Christina and Japhat Cameron. Olive was preceded in death by her older siblings Charlie, Stanley, Elfreda, Gwendolyn, Euleslie and Violet.
At the age of 5 Olive migrated from Camaguey, Cuba to Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. She attended Allman Town School then Kingston Senior School. After graduation from Kingston Senior School she went to sewing school to become a dressmaker. Later having her own business sewing clothes for others. She met Levi Emanuel Grant and from that union they had their daughter Elaine Marjorie Grant.
In 1959 she migrated to the United States by filing for a visa; at that time - she being Cuban - there were no restrictions. She worked as a nanny for the Katz family, in Lawrence, Long Island, New York. During her employment they encouraged and supported her in obtaining a college education. As a result, she received her Associates Degree at New York City College, Brooklyn, New York. Later she would pursue employment at St. Luke’s hospital in New York, New York until she retired.
Olive was a loving and devoted mother to her daughter Elaine Marjorie and a dear grandmother to her heart beats - Michelle Annamarie and Daun Olivia. She gave her all to her child and grandchildren.
She was a Board member of the Church of the Evangel in Brooklyn, New York and also its Secretary. She was special and unique in many ways – giving and loving to both family and friends. She challenged life’s problems with faith in God which sustained her.
In 1979, she married Claude (Geno) Walker and they lived happily in Brooklyn, New York. She loved her “Geno” and they travelled extensively and enjoyed each other’s company until Geno preceded her in death.
Also remaining to cherish her memories are great-grandchildren, Daylon, Daisha, Denae, Deven and Arianna; nephews, Trevor, Neville, Vincent, and Basil; nieces Dorothy, Winnifred, Norma, Joy, and Carole; cousins Clarabelle, Jennifer, and Eslyn. The children of the many nieces, and nephews; also, the many friends in New York and Florida.
Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Friday, April 7, 2018 with funeral services on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 1pm at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home in Coppell, TX. Burial will follow at Rolling Oaks Memorial Center.
