Our sweet Mark went to be with his savior on February 20, 2024 un-expectantly at the age of 64. Mark was born June 2, 1959 in Hickory, North Carolina and attended Lenape High School in Medford, NJ. After graduating from Vanderbilt University with a BS in Molecular Biology, Mark began a 29 year career with Abbott Laboratory. He was transferred many times throughout his career with Abbott but the last transfer to Dallas, Texas was his last by choice.
Mark met Gina Boyer Gauntlett in Philadelphia, PA in 1991 and they married in 1997. They have two children Ashley and Jaclyn. Mark and Gina began attending Hackberry Creek Church in 2004 and it there that Mark’s mission life began. In 2012 he took his first mission trip to Juarez, Mexico in conjunction with Arrow Outreach. With him was his 10 year daughter, Ashley. Over the years he included his daughter, Jaclyn and together they painted, hammered nails, planted, cleaned, laughed and prayed, making many friendships along the way. Mark was especially proud of the fundraising they did for educational scholarships for the children in Juarez.
Mark served as an elder at the church and with his wife served the less advantaged at The Bridge/Stewpot in Dallas. Mark valued all the relationships he made along the way but his true gift was maintaining those relationships throughout the years. Mark’s other interests were golf, exercise, reading, daily Sudoku and going to Texas Ranger games.
Mark was preceded in death by his father Donald Mitchell Sr., his mother Anne Rountree Mitchell, and his brother Donald Mitchell Jr. Mark is survived by his wife of 26 years, Gina and his two children Ashley (21) and Jaclyn (19), his sister, Sharon Almgren (Vic) and his nieces Grace and Emily King (Logan) six nephews, Stephen, Don, Jack, Lincoln, Jake and Kyle and his Aunt Carolyn Tomlins (Don).
