Linda Gail Lapp, 79, of Grapevine, met her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, after a 6-year battle with cancer. Gail faced her health struggles with great courage and a strong faith in Christ while continuing a selfless devotion to her family and friends.
Gail was born on November 7, 1938 in Los Angeles, CA to the late Austin Thomas Hamby and Gladys Evelyn Hamby. She was a 1956 graduate of Polytechnic High School in Ft. Worth and attended North Texas State University.
She married the love of her life, Sam Lapp, in 1965. Together they had 3 children, Jeffrey Dean Lapp, James Boyd Lapp and Douglas Wayne Lapp. Early in their marriage, Gail and Sam lived many places including Ft. Worth, TX, Aberdeen, SD, Toledo, OH, and Virginia Beach, VA. They became longtime residents of Irving, TX in 1969 where they raisied their boys. They currently live in Grapevine, TX.
Prior to marriage, Gail was a secretary at Acme Brick and Continental Grain in Fort Worth. Following her marriage, she was a homemaker for several years before returning to work as a receptionist at Studio 4000/4001 and Personally Yours in Irving.
Gail enjoyed playing tennis, reading, needlepoint and playing cards; Bridge and Hand & Foot were among her favorites. She was an avid sports fan who loved the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys, and enjoyed watching tennis and golf as well. Gail had a passion for interior design and home decorating, which was evident in her beautiful homes. As much as she loved working on the inside of her home, she found her “therapy” in gardening and took pride in maintaining a beautifully landscaped yard. Gail was an amazing cook who delighted in hosting many extended family holiday dinners.
Gail had a strong and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Plymouth Park United Methodist Church in Irving for 30+ years where she taught Sunday School, was President of United Methodist Women’s group, was active in charity work and the youth group. Upon moving to Grapevine, Sam and Gail became members of White’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Southlake.
Gail will be missed by so many family members and loved ones, especially her husband Sam, children: Jeff, Jim and his wife Sarah and Doug; grandchildren: Jessica Lloyd, Jordan Lapp, Hudson Lapp, Abigail Lapp, Chloe Lapp; great grandchildren BriLee Lloyd and Peyton Lloyd. She will also be missed by her siblings Tom Hamby and Carol Fowler, a large extended family and host of very dear friends.
Gail loved her extended family and friends very much and was always generous and compassionate with her time and gifts. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved to laugh with her kids.
Visitation for Gail will be held Tuesday, June 5th from 6-8pm at Rolling Oaks Funeral Home, 400 Freeport Parkway, Coppell, TX. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 6, at 10:00 am at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church (in their Grace Chapel building), located at 185 S. White’s Chapel Blvd., Southlake, TX. 76029. A private burial at Rolling Oaks Memorial Center will follow immediately after the church service.
